Industry-leading data scientist joins 15th Club team to further strengthen analytical research and consultancy work.

Sam Green has joined 15th Club as a data scientist as the business further strengthens its analytical work with players, governing bodies, broadcasters and brands in golf.

Sam’s appointment follows an extensive recruitment process, including a digital hackathon that invited participants to analyse the data of a professional golfer and submit a series of insights designed to help the player improve their game.

In his role with 15th Club, Sam will support the development of new modes of analysis designed to help players and fans understand more about performance on the course. Deriving insights that enable players gain a competitive edge over their rivals, Sam will be central to 15th Club’s unique analytical research and consultancy.

Sam began his career with Opta in 2011, joining the company as its first specialist sports statistician. Working across multiple sports, Sam helped to lead Opta’s work in advanced analytics before joining Aston Villa as the club’s Head of Research in 2015.

“I’m pleased to be joining 15th Club at an exciting point in the business’ development,” said Sam. “I look forward to working with the team as we help golfers achieve performance advantage and develop new ways of thinking about their performance.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Sam to the business,” said Blake Wooster, Founder and CEO of 15th Club. “Sam is a great cultural fit and his experiences working in elite sport will be invaluable as we continue to expand our team and change the conversation in golf to be more data-driven”
